The Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce has sponsored 21 ribbon-cutting ceremonies over the past six months. Of those events, 17 have been for new businesses. Executive director Sandra Fowler said the chamber signed up 79 new members in 2006. "It's just been phenomenal," Fowler said. "And I think it will double this year." Millbrook is indeed seeing a retail boom. Its Wal-Mart Supercenter is expected to open its doors this summer and construction has begun on an O'Reilly's auto parts store, with Zaxby's and Huddle House not far behind. An important part of that boom, however, is small businesses. Fowler said more than 75 percent of the chamber's members are small business owners.
