ECEDA Matches Funds with Local Industry for Workforce Development

February 5, 2009

The Elmore County Economic Development Authority (ECEDA) recently matched funding with Neptune Technology Group Inc. to provide the financial means for a pre-employment screening tool called the Work Keys Skills Assessment.

The Work Keys System was developed to assess workplace skills such as reading for information, locating information, applied mathematics, and applied technology. The results of the assessment show the employer and the employee what their strengths and weaknesses are.

ECEDA provided half of the funds needed for the Work Keys project to provide testing to approximately 50 seniors at the Elmore County Technical Center. “I am excited about ECEDA and the Elmore County Technical Center coming together for the Work Keys project. It is partnerships like these that increase the opportunities for students and provide a sustainable workforce for area industries. These partnerships are what economic development is all about, bringing together stakeholders to make our community a better place to live and work,” said Stephanie Fulmer, Human Resources manager for Neptune Technology Group Inc.

The Work Keys System provides a great way for those tested to increase their marketability for jobs and is a good use of workforce development funds.
