Airport terminal project to begin

June 14, 2008

Work is slated to begin next week on a project that has been in the planning stages for more than a year.  A new airport terminal - or more technically, a fixed base operator (FBO) building - will be constructed at Wetumpka Municipal Airport.

Ingram Construction of Montgomery, the low bidder at $333,840, will handle the project.  An initial round of bids were rejected in early March, and the project was rebid.  Ingram's bid was accepted by city council members May 5.

"The work is scheduled to begin Tuesday," said Councilman Robert Hankins, a member of the city's airport board.  "The facility will be highly visible from Highway 14, and it will be a tremendous impovement over the existing FBO.

"It will give incoming pilots 24-hour access by keypad lock to restroom and planning facilities." he added.  "It will be slightly less than 2,000 square feet and state of the art."
