Trenholm State Technical College
Trenholm State Technical College is Elmore County’s local two year technical college.
Within their mission, Trenholm Technical College meets two primary needs for Elmore
County’s manufacturing workforce by providing highly technical degree programs for
students and assisting local employers with “hands on” customized training. Trenholm
currently has 1600 students enrolled at its campus and averages a graduating class
of 500 students per year that are available to work for Elmore County employers.
Trenholm State Technical College offers 26 degree programs. Some of the programs
of study offered are Injection Molding Plastics, CNC Machining, Graphic Communication,
Computer Science, Culinary Arts, Heating/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology,
Automotive Technology, Electrical Technology, Building Construction Technology,
Diesel Mechanics, Welding, Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Office Administration,
and more.
Trenholm State offers two extremely unique programs for manufacturers looking for
high demand workforce skills such as automotive manufacturing technology and injection
molding plastics. Recently, Trenholm State opened the Automotive Manufacturing Technology
Center to expose students to the unique environments that are present in an automotive
manufacturing facility. Secondly, the Trenholm State campus is the only program
in Alabama that develops skills for injection molding plastics equipment as they
now have installed injection molding equipment on campus as well as hired an instructor
for the program. To find out information about class scheduling and degree programs

Elmore County Technical Center
At the Elmore County Technical Center high school students from all Elmore County
schools learn skills that can help them enter the workforce after graduation. The
departments that are related to manufacturing at the ECTC include: computer science,
precision machining, carpentry, welding, and small engines. The ECTC is always interested
in customizing technical training that can earn a student a career in a local manufacturing
or office facility. The staff at ECTC can assist companies with a variety of needs
in worker skills. The Elmore County Economic Development Authority can arrange an
appointment with the professional staff at the ECTC as well as a tour of the existing
facility in Wetumpka.
A message from Carl Thomas, Director of the Elmore County Technical Center: “The
job market of today is searching for those people that have training beyond high
school but less than four years of college. Only 10 percent of today’s jobs require
college degrees. Our students that come through the Elmore County Technical Center
and continue training at a Technical College will meet the needs of 80 percent of
today's work force. In many situations the labor market is looking for the individual
that 1) comes to work daily 2) has the proper work ethic and 3) comes to work with
the right attitude. Many employers state that they can train a person willing to
work, they cannot work a person that is not willing to dedicate themselves.
We here at the ECTC, instructors and staff, hope that we are instilling this can
do / will do attitude in our students. We enjoy our jobs and we hope that the students
enjoy being on our campus. The skills that the students learn today will carry them
into the future.”
Auburn University College of Engineering
Auburn University Engineers play a major role in the Elmore County economy. Several
of our employers actively partner with the University in a variety of programs that
aid them in developing quality engineers for their production process. Three common
student programs that are utilized by the business community are the co-op program,
career days and internships. ECEDA is happy to assist local and new companies in
establishing a relationship with the College of Engineering.

Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT)
Often referred to as the State of Alabama’s #1 economic development incentive, AIDT
offers job specific training to specific employees. AIDT is the state government
selected program for screening and training new industrial employees. Companies
enlist AIDT to both train and screen workers. AIDT provides this service at no cost
to the industrial employer provided that they meet or exceed AIDT’s required starting
hourly wage. AIDT has been honored recently by Expansion Management magazine as
the country’s best economic development training program. Expansion Management made
this conclusion after interviewing more than 70 site selection consultants.
Central Alabama Community College (CACC)
The Technology Center on campus at CACC is a new building that is solely dedicated
to training adults in technical and mechanical fields. Offering a variety of programs
from Truck Driver Training to Computer Science to Nursing, CACC provides many opportunities
for local students. With two campus locations available, one in Childersburg and
one in Alexander City, students can easily find a school near their homes. CACC
provides both day and night classes to help accommodate the busy lifestyles of its
many students. All students are encouraged to meet with a counselor in order to
receive the optimum benefits from CACC classes. For more information about class
